Deve Gowda accused of practising vindictive politics

Staff Correspondent

TUMKUR: Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly N. Dharam Singh has criticised former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy for practising "vindictive" politics.

Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, Mr. Dharam Singh said, "Mr. Deve Gowda and Mr. Kumaraswamy are worried over the prospects of their party candidate's defeat in the byelection. Hence, they are acting in desperation."

He said the Congress had thought of entrusting the party's campaign work to former Minister D.K. Shivakumar as he had successfully handled such work during the byelections in the past. Mr. Deve Gowda and Mr. Kumaraswamy, who had tasted defeat at the hands of Mr. Shivakumar, had planned to keep the Congress leader busy with litigations and misused government machinery to file "false" cases against him, Mr. Dharam Singh alleged. He said the people would teach them a lesson in the byelection. "Our candidate Siddaramaiah is not new to the people of Chamundeshwari. We are sure of winning the byelection by a big margin," he added.
