PUDUKOTTAI: With the State Government according priority for road development works this year, the local body representatives should try to ascertain the condition of the roads at the block level and those that needed repairs and submit the information to the government, the Union Minister of State for Home, S. Regupathy, has said. Addressing the local body representatives at the Collectorate here on Saturday, Mr. Regupathy said the local body representatives should ascertain the condition of the roads that were frequently used by the people at the block level and those where transport services were being operated as well as roads that needed immediate repairs etc. The information so collected should be sent to the government to enable the official machinery to take up road development works. The link road works would be taken up with panchayat funds. With a view to ensure that works at the town panchayats were carried without any difficulty and delay, steps would be taken shortly to fill vacant posts of executive officers and bill collectors. As 75 per cent of the district's population were residing in rural areas, measures have been taken to fulfil their basic needs such as drinking water supply, laying of roads etc. The District Collector, S.
