NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India has said the U.S. Senate vote on the India-U.S. nuclear deal was no cause for celebration and said the bill contained a number of clauses and conditions which did not conform to the July 18, 2005 joint statement; nor did it answer the concerns expressed by the Left and the scientific community. In a statement, the party Central Secretariat said it remained to be seen how the bills as adopted by the two Houses of the U.S. Congress would be reconciled and how India's concerns would be met. "The final result is a long way off." It said those who were welcoming the vote were in too much of a hurry. The underlying objective of the U.S., it said, was "to drag India into its global strategy."
