VISAKHAPATNAM: Diverse emotions - tender and untainted - perceived by little artists came alive on the white sheets at The Hindu Young World painting competition held here on Sunday. Eye-catching frames, bold images, enchanting shades and motifs. It was a riot of colour, a world of paints and brushes.
Creative energy
The youngsters exuded an unrestrained creative energy as they set to work. Some of the images seemed to converse, play and leap out of the canvas. It was the novelty of ideas and presentation of the subjects that won the hearts of the two judges - Ravisankar Patnaik and Sistla Srinivas, professor and associate professor, respectively, of the Department of Fine Arts, Andhra University.
`Bold, imaginative'
Commissioner of Police V.S.K. Kaumudi, who was Chief Guest for the occasion, appreciated the efforts of the students and said that the bold strokes and imaginative ideas brought out by the students were very impressive. The annual painting contest held at the J.R. Enclave evoked enthusiastic response, with nearly 300 children participating in the event.
Dazzling collection
The contest brought out the latent skills of the children who drew vivid and vibrant pictures that spoke volumes. The children crouched, kneeling over canvas, watercolours and pencils. And a vast, dazzling collection of soggy, just-painted pictures spread across the floor.
The themes
Squatting, stretching on the floor, with not a care of what was happening around, not even for the anxious parents who kept wait, their thoughts were translated into shapes and figures. For the seniors the theme was `A scene at the bus stop' and `Save the tree campaign at your school' while for the juniors it was `Playing with friends' and `Your favourite animal at the zoo'.
Rich haul
The first prize-winners in the senior and junior categories were given cash of Rs.1, 250 by The Hindu . The second prize-winners received cash of Rs.1,000 and the third prize-winners got Rs.750 from The Hindu , besides BooProo bubble gums. In the senior category, the first prize was bagged by K. Mrudula (Little Angels), the second prize went to P. Siva Jyothi (St. Joseph's Girls High School) and the third prize to K. Lavanya (St. Joseph's Girls High School). In the senior category, seven consolation prizes of Rs. 200 each were given by The Hindu to K.V. Bisoyi, R. Srihita, Lovejeet Singh Naik, G. Anil, Deepak Ranjan, Anupriya Mridha and B. Rajesh Rao. In the junior category, the first three prizes went to Poushali Das (Visakha Valley School), Shrijita Chakraborty (Delhi Public School, Ukkunagaram) and Ch. Polaraju (Mrs. A.V.N.
