More rain forecast
Many places in the State received rain. During the 24-hour-period that ended at 8-30 a.m. on Sunday, Avinashi registered 12 cm, Coonoor - 11 cm, Pollachi 8 cm and Bhavani 7 cm. Sri Lankan national arrested
illegally staying in the State. Sources said Mohamed Ibrahim, son of Mohamed Ismail of Guru Nagal district in Sri Lanka was staying at Erwadi without any document. Acting on tip off, the police arrested him under the Passport Act. Further investigation is on.

Officials of the Public Works Department decided to release 408 cusecs of water from the Pechipparai dam. However the flow into the dam was 867 cusecs. As the catchement areas recorded heavy rain on Sunday, the water level in all the four dams is about to cross the danger mark. Rice bags seized
Those who came in the lorry escaped. When officials checked the lorry, they found 12 tonnes of rice in 240 bags. The rice bags were seized and handed over to the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC). A case was registered at Tamil University Police station.
VAT: 4 per cent tax for drugs
A resolution to this effect was adopted at a meeting of the general council of the association here on Sunday. The association said that efforts would be taken to make drugs easily available in all the places in the three districts. In view of VAT introduction from January, drugs will be given on credit only for thirty days. C. Officials of the Public Works Department decided to release 408 cusecs of water from the Pechipparai dam. However the flow into the dam was 867 cusecs. As the catchement areas recorded heavy rain on Sunday, the water level in all the four dams is about to cross the danger mark. Meanwhile, the district administration has decided to release 625 cusecs from the Perunchani dam, which recorded 793 cusecs of inflow. The maximum amount of rainfall of 47.6 mm was recorded at Pechipparai followed by 16 in Boothapandi, 15.4 in Surulode, 9.6 in Perunchani, 9.2 in Puthen dam, 8.5 in Kannimar and 7.6 in Kottaram. The level in Pechipparai stood as 46.15 feet against the total capacity of 48 feet, 73.05 feet in Perunchani (77 feet), 16.70 feet in Chittar I (18 feet) and 16.80 feet in Chittar II (18 feet).
