Champions off to a flying start

ALAPPUZHA: A series of lopsided matches dominated the opening day of the 68th National sub-junior table tennis championship at the Sakthi Auditorium here on Sunday.

All the four defending champions — Petroleum Academy (boys), Tamil Nadu (girls) in the sub-juniors and North Bengal (boys) and Maharashtra `A' (girls) in cadets, posted wins in their group without dropping a match.

Host Kerala, with local boys S. Sunder and Vishnu Narayan sparkling, was also off to a flying start in the sub-junior boys section, blanking Punjab and Himachal Pradesh by an identical 3-0 margins.
