THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader K. Karunakaran has warned against any attempt to infringe on the constitutional rights of the minority communities. Inaugurating the 89th birth anniversary celebrations of Indira Gandhi at Priyadarshini Bhavan here on Sunday, Mr. Karunakaran said anyone who dared to lay hands on the rights of the minorities would burn their fingers. Anticipating the dangers of an attack by the majority Hindu community against the minority communities, the architects of the Constitution had provided special rights for their protection. He recalled the help rendered by Indira Gandhi to Mujeeb ur Rahman for restoring democracy in Bangladesh. The Indian Army was withdrawn immediately after completing the process of restoring democracy. This was proof of the democratic values of the nation, he said. The former Foreign Affairs Minister K. Natwar Singh, in his keynote address, said if Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation for modern India, Indira Gandhi completed the nation-building process.
