Private parties roped in to fight mosquitoes

Staff Reporter

MADURAI: The State Government has extended the public-private partnership model to mosquito control programme.

Launched in all districts on November 18, the new scheme will involve residential welfare associations, lodges and hotels, cinema halls, shopping complexes, hostels and builders in mosquito-control initiatives, Health department officials said.

"This is an innovative model in our State to have partnership with private individuals/organisations.

The programme will be implemented at the block, municipality and corporation level," S. Elango, Joint Director of Public Health, who launched the partnership programme at Kovilpatti, told The Hindu on Sunday.

He said health officials in all districts would hold a two-hour meeting on Saturdays to explain to the participants the sources of mosquitoes and ways of controlling them.

The orientation programme would be conducted on the premises of private stakeholders.
