The Hindu-Young World competition a big draw

NEW DELHI: As many as 200 children from 30 schools participated in the 12th The Hindu-Young World On the Spot Painting Competition 2006 at Raisina Bengali School on Mandir Marg here on Sunday.

In the annual painting competition, children participated in two different categories. One section comprised "juniors" from Class IV to Class VII, while the other was of "seniors" from Class VIII to Class X. The topic for the junior category was "Playing with friends" or "Your favourite animal at the zoo". The senior category students had to paint on either "A scene at the bus stop" or "Save the tree campaign at your school".

In each category 10 prizes were given away. While the first prize carried a cash reward of Rs.1,250, the second prize had a cash component of Rs.1,000 and the third Rs.750. The consolation prize winners got Rs.200 each. Sponsors of the event, Lotte Boo Proo, also gave away prizes to the winners. All the participants were presented with participation certificates.

In the senior category, the first prize went to Susnata Paul of Class IX of Amity International School, Noida, the second prize to Manojit Pathak of Class IX from Raisina Bengali School, Mandir Marg. The third prize went to Supriya of Class IX of Andhra Education Society, ITO.

In the junior category, the first prize was bagged by Durgesh Pandey of Class IV of New Nalanda Public School, Badarpur, while the second prize was bagged by R. Bhargavi of Class IV from DAV Public School, Rajinder Nagar, Sahibabad. The third prize went to Vishal Tyagi of Class IV of Modern Academy Senior Secondary School, Indirapuram. Eminent artists M.S. Rawat and R.P. Dabral were the judges for the competition and also gave away the prizes.
