TRADITIONAL TOUCH: Students of National Public School, Rajajinagar, performing at Rhythms '06
BANGALORE: National Public School, Rajajinagar, organised its annual cultural event, "Rhythms '06", recently. The juniors gave expression to the country's multilingual and multicultural identity through a variety of dances, including Bengali, Rajasthani, and Gujarati, and Qawali, Gidda, and Lavani. The seniors presented a programme comprising melodies and dances of popular Hindi films from the 70s to recent times. They gave a traditional touch to the event by presenting Hindi and Sanskrit skits. A programme also held to mark the Suvarna Karnataka celebrations. "Hello Dolly", an English classical music programme, and the rock band enthralled the audience. Principal Santhamma Gopalkrishna presided over the function. Founder chairman of National Public Schools K.P. Gopalkrishna and Bindu Hari, director of The International School, Bangalore, were present.
Rajyotsava
Jayaram Shetty, director of the institution, spoke on the cultural heritage and unification of the State. Students presented a programme on Kannada culture. "Karavali Kesari," a play depicting Abbaka Devi, queen of Ullal, who fought against the Portuguese, was the main attraction. "Hasya sammelana", folk dances, and a tableau depicting the literary heritage of Karnataka were part of the event.
Promoting Kannada
Principal M.C. Thomas inaugurated the celebrations. The Kannada Department of the school presented a cultural programme. Mr. Thomas gave away prizes to the "best speakers". Many competitions will be held during the month. Elocution, debate and quiz competitions to promote the language of the State are being held for students.
`Milo Minithon'
Many sportspersons will participate in the event. It will be flagged off at Kanteerava Stadium at 7 a.m.
