Film producer K.P. Kottarakara dead

CHENNAI
: Film producer and storywriter K.P. Kottarakara, the man behind the unforgettable classic Tamil movie "Paasamalar,' depicting an everlasting bondage between a brother and sister, died in a private hospital in Chennai on Sunday. He was 85.
Born in Kottarakara in Kerala, he produced more than 59 films and scripted over 87 films.
He was associated with the doyens of the Indian film industry such as Ashok Kumar (Hindi), Prem Nazir (Malayalam), Raj Kumar (Kannada), N.T.Rama Rao (Telugu), MGR (Tamil) and Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
In Malayalam, he produced 29 films featuring Prem Nazir. Some of his popular Tamil films were `Thangam Manasu Thangam', `Pillai Kani Amuthe', `Paasamalar', `Andavan Kattalai', and `Thazhamboo'. His Hindi films included `Jungle Be Mangal' and `Sawan Badhon.' His last film production was `Mazhaithuli Kilikkum' with Dileep and Sarada.
He was the president of the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce in 1980 and was also an executive committee member of the Film Federation of Indian, apex body of the Indian film industry.
He is survived by his wife and two sons.
