Recreation club fined

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has imposed an exemplary cost of Rs. 25,000 on French City Sports and Recreation Club, which had moved the court to restrain the police from interfering with its activities. Holding that the petition had no merits, Justice M.E.N. Patrudu imposed the cost and dismissed the plea.

Refuting the submissions, a counter-affidavit filed by the police said the premises were being used for unlawful activities such as gambling and several complaints were received over the club's functioning.
