Signature drive to stamp out a menace

Though the Government was implementing various programmes for total elimination of child labour, it is the helping hand extended by service organisations, which have played a major role in creating awareness among the people about this menace.

The Rotary Club of Pudukottai recently launched a signature campaign and also released pamphlets to highlight the ill-effects of the child labour problem on the entire society and the need to abolish it. The campaign was inaugurated by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mahendran. The members of the Rotaract Club, led by the president of the club, T. Thiyagarajan, and the secretary, C. Prasath, visited the new bus stand, old bus stand, East Main Street, West Main Street and collected signatures of the traders on the assurance forms. Rotaract Club members also informed the public on the amendment made to the Child Labour Abolition and Regulation Act, 1986, which came into effect on October 10.
