Painting the many shades of Kerala

Special Correspondent

VISUAL TREAT: Paintings by 30 artists from Kerala are on display at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat in Bangalore.

Bangalore: Art, like good music and literature, knows no geographical or political boundaries. The Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat proved this by arranging an exhibition of paintings by 30 artists from Kerala. It was a collaboration with the Kerala Chitrakala Parishat. Both the States are celebrating 50 years of their formation as linguistic entities this year.

The artists were from all regions of Kerala, and their works brought out the subtle cultural differences that exist within the State.

One could see the many nuances of Kerala and its people in the works exhibited. The expressions from different strata of social life and with the underlying unity of common cultural symbols caught the eye.

The relationship of man with nature was recurring theme in many of the works and the strength and warmth of the people of that State was evident through the paintings. Some went into contemporary themes making eloquent statements that the human race cannot survive without nature.

Some young artists highlighted the endangered village scenes, fast merging into a globalised, uniform and commercial scene.
