HYDERABAD: In a crackdown against land allotted during the Telugu Desam regime, the Congress Government on Tuesday promulgated an ordinance for immediate takeover of 855 acres of land and 10 sports stadia in Hyderabad , all alienated to M/s IMG Bharata, a sports management group. Acting swiftly on the ordinance, a team of revenue officials led by Madan Mohan went to Gachibowli and planted a signboard declaring that the land belonged to the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The ordinance annulled all transactions with M/s IMG Bharata registration of 400 acres in its favour at Kancha Gachibowli in Ranga Reddy, agreements to sell another 450 acres at Mamidipalli, five acres in Banjara Hills, and to lease out "with right to purchase" the 10 major stadia and equipment in the city together with their lands. It also declared null and void the agreement empowering the firm to "manage and utilise" these stadia and other facilities of the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh and share revenues. The stadia include GMC Balayogi Complex, Indoor Stadium, Aquatic Stadium, Hockey Stadium, all at Gachibowli; KVB Reddy Indoor Stadium, Yousufguda; Indoor Stadium, Saroornagar; SAAP Velodrome and Shooting Range, both in Osmania University; and Tennis Complex and Indoor Stadium of LB Stadium. All these properties "forthwith stand restored to the Government". The ordinance, however, allowed "reasonable compensation" with 12 per cent interest.
