New courses to suit competitive job market

Nannayya University has many proposals up its sleeve

Rajahmundry: Giving a new direction to region-specific issues, the newly established Adikavi Nannayya University proposes to open a school of geophysics and centre for regional development (CRD) with the active participation of corporate majors like Reliance, Nirma and public sector undertakings like the ONGC and the CIFFRI.

Talking to The Hindu , university Vice-Chancellor K. Niruparani said that long, medium and short-term courses would be introduced to compete in the job market. These would include tie-ups to offer management courses with Nirma Institute of Technologies, Gujarat; oil and gas related research, geophysics and geo-informatics with the ONGC, reliance and the NGRI; fisheries development projects with Central Institute of Freshwater Fisheries Research Institute (CIFFRI) and other farm sciences. Thee proposals would take shape in two to three years, Prof. Niruparani said.

Region-specific

She said that at the recent meeting with Vice-Chancellors of various universities, the Andhra Pradesh State Higher Education Council (APSHEC) decided to allot one CRD for each university and that the new university was allotted region-specific issues like oil and gas exploration, geophysics (including geo-informatics) and farm sciences (specifically marine culture).
