Water promised for second crop

HYDERABAD: Major Irrigation Minister P. Lakshmaiah has announced the Government's decision to ensure water for the second crop (irrigated dry) under the right and left banks canal of Nagarjunasagar Project.

In a press note on Tuesday, he said there was enough water flowing in the two canals to meet the kahrif needs. For rabi crops, water will continue to be supplied till March. The decision would benefit 3 lakh acres in Nalgonda and 2.4 lakh acres in Guntur districts.

He also said a decision had been taken to provide full rehabilitation to families being displaced at Nunki in Vizianagaram district under Thotapalli Barrage project.
