HYDERABAD: Chief Electoral Officer V. Bhaskar on Tuesday said action would be taken under the election laws against drivers of the van that was carrying cash and cricket kits, allegedly for distribution by Congress leaders to voters in Karimnagar. He said carrying of cash and material with a view to distributing them among the voters amounted to violation of the election code and, therefore, was liable to punishment. He said both the drivers were arrested. Speaking to reporters after receiving a spate of complaints from political parties against the `electoral malpractice,' Mr. Bhaskar said he had called for a detailed report from the Karimnagar District Collector. Action against the guilty would follow the scrutiny of the report by the Election Commission. He said he did not know if K. Sudhakar Rao, a member of State Information Commission, was involved in the offence as alleged. "The matter is equally important to the Election Commission. We will know the truth soon." He said he would visit Karimanagar constituency again to verify various complaints.
