3 countries sign accord with NARL

Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI: The National Atmospheric Research Laboratory, Tirupati, on Tuesday inked pact with the Space Research Centres of USA, France and Japan for joint studies on aerosols, climatology of cirrus clouds and for development of Doppler Lidars to measure wind valocities.

The signing of the pact comes in the wake of a two-day visit to the NARL by a team of space scientists comprising three from USA (NASA) and one each from France and Japan.

According to NARL Director D. Narayana Rao, the visit by the overseas space scientists follows an invitation extended by the organisation to the space centres of the three nations to depute their teams for deliberations on exploring the possibility of taking up collaborative projects especially in the area of atmospheric studies.

Mr. Rao said that consensus had been reached between the two groups on all matters of mutual interest, including the launching of space-borne lidar.
