Valisetti Narender fixing a mobile set to a motor at Nakrekal.
NAKREKAL (NALGONDA DT.): Now farmers need not go to their fields to switch on or turn off their agricultural pumpsets. They can operate them with mobile phones happily staying at home, thanks to the invention by Valisetti Narender. The 28-year-old youth, owner of an electronics shop and an expert in mobile phone repairs, has designed a small device that can be attached to the Direct On Line (DOL) starter near the pumpset in fields. He used `Alert for' option in a mobile phone and arranged it in the set. He demonstrated to The Hindu how the motor of a pumpset can be operated from a far away place with a missed call. The beauty of the invention is that farmers can check whether water is flowing from the delivery pipe. He arranged a microphone near the pipe and connected it to the mobile phone in the set.
Handy technique
"To switch the motor on and off, a missed call is enough, but to hear the water flowing, you have to waste a phone call," said Narender. Narender has been working on his invention for the last 10 months and spent more than Rs.10,000. Given the highly erratic power supply and increasing number of snakebites in nights at the fields, this technique comes in handy for ryots. The cost of the device he invented is only Rs. 200 in addition to the price of the mobile handset. "If the service providers help me in bringing out exclusive mobile phones by barring some options for the purpose, I'll be very happy," Narender said, requesting the Central and State Governments to try his technique "to save the precious lives of ryots." Gaddam Mahender Reddy, owner of a 12-acre patch, is very happy to know about his invention. "I am ready to make use of it. It will put an end to our untold problems at fields to water our crops," he said. The young man demonstrated the technique in front of Collector K. Vijayanand and local MLA N. Narasimhaiah.
