Three held

KADAPA: The Badvel police arrested three persons of Gopavaram mandal on Tuesday on the charge of assisting CPI (Maoist). Kalluri Mallem Kondaiah and Balli Penchala Narasaiah of Gopavaram ST colony were accused of supplying food to Maoists and A. KURNOOL: Principal Sessions Judge G. Dasappa sentenced five murder accused to life term on Tuesday. According to reports, six persons attacked one Gaggaiah with sickles and murdered him at Kothaburuju in Dhone mandal in June 2006. One of them died during trial. - Special Correspondent

Steps to control traffic

Madanapalle: Superintendent of Police, Chittoor district, Charu Sinha, has said that that the necessary steps have been taken to control traffic at Madanapalle. ADILABAD: Adilabad Second Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Court) K.V. Vijaya Kumar on Tuesday sentenced Nakka Sadanandam and Rajender to life and fined them Rs. 3,000 each for killing Urmila, second wife of their father Saraiah, who was also awarded six months' imprisonment and fined Rs. 500. Land acquisition cases settled

KADAPA: A special Lok Adalat, held under the presidentship of retired district Judge A. Venugopal Reddy, settled 16 cases of land acquisition under Somasila project and granted compensation of Rs. 73 lakhs to 112 petitioners on Tuesday. Senior advocates T.V. Srinivasa Rao and G.V. Mass hunger strike by cashew workers

Srikakulam: A large number of workers of cashewnut manufacturing units located in and around Palasa-Kasibugga, on Tuesday launched a mass hunger strike in front of the Mandal Revenue Office in Palasa, demanding reopening of all units closed some two weeks ago and continue roasting method of processing. They vowed to continue the agitation till their demands were met.

Local MLA Gouthu Shyam Sundar Sivaji, who called on the agitating workers, criticised the administration for not intervening for such a long time though the livelihood of thousands of workers was at stake. The MLA expressed solidarity with the agitating workers. - Special Correspondent

Women walkers' gesture to flood-hit

Rajahmundry: The Kambala Women Walkers' Association has contributed clothes, buckets, blankets, utensils, sarees and dresses for people of flood-hit Krishna district.

AIDS awareness for police personnel

VISAKHAPATNAM: AIDS awareness programmes will be conducted for police personnel and their families at Paderu on November 22, Anakapalle on November 23, Narsipatnam on November 25, Chintapalli on November 26 and at the District Armed Reserve Stadium on December 1, according to Superintendent of Police J.G. Murali.

The programme is being conducted in association with the State and district AIDS control societies. - Special Correspondent

Withdrawal of GO 24 demanded

Kakinada: The Andhra Pradesh Highway (R&B) Employees' Union has expressed its strong resentment over the move of the Government to transfer mechanical helpers of the Roads and Buildings Department to BC welfare hostels under the pretext of surplus staff. The union State president Vasireddi Veerabhadram said transferring of helpers though GO 24, without consulting officials of R&B, Irrigation and Panchayat Raj was against norms.

He demanded that the GO be withdrawn. - Correspondent
