KOZHIKODE: The Mullaperiyar Aikyadardya Samithi has expressed grave concern over the confusing statements made by political leaders on the Mullaperiyar dam issue. In a statement here on Tuesday, Samithi chairman Iyyancheri Kunhikrishnan suggested that the Government and the Opposition study the report submitted in the court by retired Revenue Divisional Officer V.N. Nehru, and understand the realities in view of the age of the dam and the safety issues at stake. The samithi chairman deplored the attitude of Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan in criticising news reports that sought to inform the public on the condition of the dam. The people in the vicinity of the dam ought to be assured that safety measures were being put in place.
