Call for Indo-U.K. cooperation

U.K. delegation visits Kozhikode


  • Team to explore tie-ups in industrial, educational fields
  • `India one of the emerging economies in the world'

    Kozhikode: A delegation comprising engineers, professionals from the education sector and industrialists from the United Kingdom on Tuesday visited Kozhikode to explore the possibilities of mutual cooperation in industrial and educational fields.

    The seven-member team led by Ebrahim K. Bassa, consultant and specialist in human development, interacted with the representatives of the Malabar Chamber of Commerce. "India and U.K. companies can work together on sustainable long-term relationships in pharmaceutical and knowledge-based industries," he said.

    In the U.K., people viewed India as one of the emerging economies in the world. Its unique selling proposition was knowledge-based sector. "However, the U.K. is looking at industrial as well as educational partnership. We needed a synergy of cooperation and sharing," said Mr. Bassa, who manages two companies in Mumbai.

    He said that Northwest England from where he hails was also one of the fastest growing economies outside London. Information technology and pharmaceutical technology were its potentials. However, there was a shortage of 10,000 pharmaceutical technicians in the U.K., he said.

    Brian Audrey, an automobile engineer, said that he was interested in outsourcing the marketing of truck devices, which his company manufactured in the U.K., in the country. Similarly, his company would market Indian-made products in the U.K., he said.

    The other members of the delegation were J.P. Ashton, Carol Fowler, Trevor Ashley, Joanne Fisher and Zuber Patel.

    MCC president P. Zakeer presided over the interactive session.

    Vice-president P.G. Anoop Narayanan and secretary K.P. Aboobacker spoke.
