Annual convention

KOLLAM: The fourth annual convention of the Padre Pio Retreat Centre here will be held from November 22 to 26 at Tillery. Director of the Retreat Centre Isaac Capuchin told presspersons here on Tuesday that the convention would be from 4.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on all the days. — Staff Reporter.

Orphanage fete

PATHANAMTHITTA: The District Charitable Institutions Association organised an orphanage festival in association with the Borachah Foundation at Othera, near Thiruvalla, on Monday. Foundation director Johnson V. Idicula said that inmates of 21 orphanages participated in the festival. Rajya Sabha Member P.J. Kurien inaugurated the festival.

Concern over confusing statement

KOZHIKODE: The Mullaperiyar Aikyadardya Samiti has expressed grave concern over the confusing statements made by political leaders on the Mullaperiyar dam issue. Samithi chairman Iyyancheri Kunhikrishnan deplored the attitude of Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan in criticising news reports.

Cardiology society president elected

THRISSUR: P.P. Mohanan of Thrissur has been elected president of the Kerala Chapter of the Cardiology Society of India for 2006-'07. According to a release here on Tuesday, K.K. Haridas of Kochi has been elected vice-president, P.K. Asokan of Kozhikode the general secretary and K.P. Balakrishnan the treasurer. — Staff Reporter

Vocafest from today

THRISSUR: The tenth Thrissur regional Vocational Higher Secondary School Youth Festival (Vocafest) will begin on Wednesday at the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School (VHSS), Nadavarambu, near Irinjalakkuda. Over 1,800 students from 52 VHSSs in Thrissur and Idukki districts will participate in the competitions. There will be 66 items in the competitive sections and of them 13 are group events. A `Vocafare,' showcasing the articles produced by the students in the VHSS, will also be held along with the youth festival. Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran will inaugurate the three-day-long festival. — Staff Reporter

Christmas carol

PATHANAMTHITTA: The Department of Sacred Music and Communications attached to the Mar Thoma Church will organise a Christmas carol evening in Thiruvalla on December 2. The programme will begin with a candlelight procession from St Thomas Mar Thoma Church at 5 p.m. Mar Thoma Metropolitan Philipose Mar Chrysostum will inaugurate the programme. — Staff Reporter
