Advani honoured

NEW DELHI: World billiards champion Pankaj Advani walked away with the Sportspersons of the Year awards for 2004-05 and 2005-06 at the Petroleum Sports Promotion Boards annual sports awards function here on Tuesday evening.

The leading awardees: Lifetime achievement: B.S. Barua (athletics). Sportspersons of the year 2004-05: Pankaj Advani (Cue sports) and A. Sharath Kamal (table tennis); Sportspersons of the year 2005-06: Pankaj Advani (Cue sports). Elite Sportspersons of the Year 2004-05: Aparna Popat (badminton), Vishal Uppal (tennis) and K. Sasikiran (chess). Elite Sportspersons of the Year 2005-06: Anuja Thakur (Cue sports), Saina Nehwal (badminton), A. Sharath Kamal (table tennis) and Wasim Jaffer (cricket). Petroleum Minister's Trophy 2005-06: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation; Petroleum Secretary's Trophy: Indian Oil Corporation: President PSPB's Trophy: Oil India Limited.
