Sugarcane farmers call off fast-unto-death

KARIMNAGAR: Sugarcane growers, who had been on a fast unto death in front of the Collectorate since last five days, demanding minimum support price of Rs. 1,500 per tonne to their produce, called off their agitation following an assurance given by Minister for Major Irrigation Ponnala Lakshmaiah here on Tuesday. The Minister, along with Metpally legislator K. Ramulu, visited the camp and offered lemon juice to the farmers and prevailed upon them to call off the agitation. He said that the Government was pro-farmer and would solve their problem after the elections.
