CHENNAI : The Madras High Court has directed the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) to furnish details of violations in the TCS (The Chennai Silks) Textiles buildings on Usman Road in T. Nagar, along with the expert committee report on the matter. The First Bench, comprising Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice K. Chandru, gave the direction on a new writ petition filed by the textile showroom, asking it to direct the CMDA to pass orders on its representations submitted on November 9 and 14 to retain its building at door no. 23(67) and 65-66 on Usman Road.
CMDA letter
On November 10, the CMDA wrote to the TCS Textiles saying any further demolition of the building would "eventually lead to the collapsing of the entire structure."
TCS reply
Replying to the letter, the showroom said that it would also damage the portion built within the approved areas, and it would cause "colossal damage" to them. In their reply on November 14, TCS Textiles said they had purchased an adjacent property measuring over 22,000 sqft. "The deviated and unauthorised portions made within the property will be well within the permissible floor space index area by purchasing the additional extent of 22,465 sqft adjoining our existing buildings... We are planning to construct multi-level parking system to fulfil the requirements of entire complex," they said. The Bench has posted the matter to Wednesday for further proceedings.
