Boy may have been in a state of depression, say police

  • Pavan found hanging in his room
  • He had eloped with a girl last month

HYDERABAD: An Intermediate second year student hanged himself to death in his house at Malakpet on Monday night following accusations allegedly levelled against him by his lover's family.

Seventeen-year-old K. Pavan Teja ended his life hours after he returned home from a court. The incident came to light when the boy failed to respond to the repeated calls of his parents asking him to have dinner. His parents then broke open the door with the help of neighbours only to find Pavan hanging in his room.

On Monday, the boy went to the Ranga Reddy district court to attend the trial of a pending kidnap case. The case was registered against him at the Saroornagar police station after he eloped with a girl on October 25 this year and returned to the city on November 6.

    Abduction case

Initially, the police booked a missing case based on a complaint lodged by the girl's father Krishna, an employee of the police department. The missing case was later altered to an abduction case after the girl's family reportedly exerted pressure on the police. The boy was subsequently arrested and released on bail, as he was a juvenile.

"As charges were levelled against the boy, we suspect he may have been in a state of depression. Moreover, the girl did not appear for the hearing to give her version," the police said.

Pavan fell in love with his schoolmate when they were in the tenth standard. He was a student of a private junior college in Dilsukhnagar, the police said.

The boy's body was handed over to his family on Tuesday after an autopsy was conducted at the Osmania General Hospital mortuary.

    Hunt for teacher on

The Cyberabad police have launched a hunt against a Telugu Pandit of Narayana Concept Residential School at Boduuppal.

A case was registered against the teacher T. Yelamandu for allegedly assaulting a sixth standard student of the school four days ago.

A special team was sent to Nalgonda district to trace him as he was reportedly taking shelter at his relatives' house there, the police said.
