VIJAYAWADA: The one-town police on Tuesday arrested two persons, including a minor on the charge of killing an aged woman at Ramarajya Nagar near Kabela on the night of August 10, 2006. Addressing a press conference here, Assistant Commissioner of Police (west circle) L. Vijay Kumar charged a 16-year-old boy from Frizerpet and Kilari Suresh, 20, of Chittinagar with killing Kaki Varahalamma, 60, at her house and fleeing the place with a chain made of imitation gold. Mr. Kumar said the two youths, who were on their way to their houses after watching the second show of a movie in a theatre in Kothapet, found Varahalamma was sleeping alone outside her house. When they tried to enter into the house, Varahalamma woke up and raised alarm. The ACP charged the duo with inflicting an injury on the old woman with a stick and snatching her chain. Neighbours took Varahalamma to Government General Hospital where she succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment. The police suspected the involvement of a few youths of the locality in the offence and kept a tab on their movement. The ACP disclosed that the police found Varahalamma's chain in Suresh's house and questioned him. He said that Suresh confessed to having committed the offence. He, however, informed the police that the minor boy was the main accused. The police took the boy into custody on Tuesday and arrested the duo. A case was registered under Sections 302 (murder) and 379 (theft) of the IPC.
Auto-rickshaw seized
Meanwhile, the one-town police arrested Surabattula Siva Nageswara Rao, 22, and Bachu Ashok, 20, of Chittinagar and seized an auto-rickshaw from them. The police charged Rao and Ashok with stealing the vehicle from the parking lot near Kaleswara Rao market on November 19. The vehicle owner Chavalam Srinivasa Rao lodged a complaint with the police on the same day. The police seized the vehicle near Seetammavari Paadalu in Krishnalanka on Tuesday morning and arrested the duo. A case was registered under Section 379 (theft) of the IPC.
