Gang producing fake saving certificates busted

Gang dupes 19 banks in different districts


  • Fake certificates worth Rs.39 lakh recovered
  • Three members of the gang still at large

    WARANGAL : The police arrested six members of an inter-State gang involved in printing and circulation of fake Kisan Vikas Patra and National Savings Certificates here.

    Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Superintendent of Police Soumya Mishra said that fake certificates worth Rs. 39 lakh were recovered along with two cars and Rs. 75,000 cash. The ganged had duped 19 banks in different districts - Karimnagar, Warangal, Guntur and Hyderabad to the tune of Rs. 89 lakh since 2005.

    The arrested are- engineering graduate K Srinivas; BSNL junior telecom officer S Upender; DTP

    operator K. Ramulu alias Ramu; S Satyanarayana and a computer operator in a private college M. Srinivas Reddy of Karimnagar and a private college lecturer V. Biskhapathi of Warangal. Three others - a Telugu daily contributor K. Sridhar Reddy alias Srikar Reddy of Nizamabad, Surekha (his wife) and O Raji Reddy of Karimnagar district are still at large.

    Modus operandi

    According to additional SP S.D. Gautam and Circle Inspector K Dakshinamurthy, the modus operandi of the gang was to prepare fake Kisan Vikas Patra and National Savings Certificates and obtain loans from various banks. The racket came to light when the Corporation Bank officials at Warangal suspected the genuinity of the documents produced by this gang. They approached the police who made inquiries at the concerned post office in Parkal and found out that the certificates were not issued by the post office. Suspecting foul play, the police arrested the members.
