Thanjavur artistes to get State awards

Thanjavur: Five artistes of Thanjavur have been selected for awards instituted by the State Government for the year 2006-07, a press release issued here by the Collector, C. Vijayaraj Kumar, said.

Master Rabin Israel from Thanjavur, a painter, will receive "Ilamani" an award given to artistes below 18 years, Reddypalayam K. Chinnaponnu Kumar, a folk artiste, has been selected for "Kalai Valarmani" award, given to artistes in the age group of 19 years to 35 years. Thanjavur A. Vadivudevi, a Bharathanatyam dancer, will get "Kalai Sudarmani" award given to artistes in the age group of 36 to 50, Thirucherai K.M. Radhakrishnan, a tavil exponent, will be presented "Kalai Nanmani" given to artistes in the age group of 51 to 60. Thanjavur N. Gopalakrishnan, a dance drama teacher, has been selected for "Kalai Mudumani" award, which is presented to artistes above 61 years.
