Thanjavur: The Municipality has sent proposals to the Government for repairing and relaying roads damaged due to the implementation of underground drainage project. The Municipal Council, which met here for the first time after the elections, approved proposals to the tune of Rs.18.97 crore to repair and relay roads to a distance of 111.302 km in the town. The Chairperson of the Municipal Council, J. Thenmozhi, presided over the meeting. Totally, 189 works will be taken up in the financial year 2007-08. The Council also gave its approval for constructing ramps at a cost of Rs.1 lakh at the new bus stand and the old bus stand, pay and use toilets, 27 sanitary complexes, Municipal Sivaganga Park, Municipality building and hospitals, Gandhiji commercial complex, Rajarajan commercial complex, Thiruvalluvar theatre, computer collection centres, and community halls for the benefit of handicapped persons. Proposals for taking up tourist promotion work to the tune of Rs.4.24 crores have also been sent to the Government. Works to be taken up include beautification of Cholan Park, entrance of the Big Temple, construction of compound wall from the temple to Sivaganga Park and construction of sanitary complex near Cholan statue.
