KANPUR: Women Protection Officers will be appointed in each district of Uttar Pradesh within three months to help women suffering from domestic violence, a senior Government official said on Wednesday. ``A proposal to this effect was sent to the state government by the state women welfare department,'' Women's Welfare Department Secretary Balvindar Kumar told PTI. He said the appointed women officers would first try to solve grievances through negotiation and counselling, and if problems still remain, they would take up the matter at a suitable forum to provide justice to the victim. At present, any woman suffering from domestic violence can directly lodge her complaint with a state probation officer.- PTI
