Model police training school to be set up at Mansapur village

BELGAUM: Director-General of Police, Corps of Detectives (CoD), K.R. Sreenivas has urged police personnel, particularly young recruits, to discharge their duties with honesty and commitment, contribute to the well being of society and bring glory to the department.

Speaking at the passing-out parade for the 13th batch of graduates at the Police Training School at Khanapur on Tuesday, Mr. Sreenivas said the growing threat to peace and harmony in society had posed increased challenges to the police in recent years.

Martyrs

Many police officers and constables across the country had become martyrs while seeking to protect the lives and property of the public. The changing situation called for more efficiency and skill on the part of the police personnel while nabbing criminals and seeking to ensure law and order in society.

He said the Government had decided to set up a similar school at Mansapur village over an area of 180 acres, which would be a model centre for the State. Recently, a training centre was also set up in Gulbarga, he added.

Principal of the school T.R. Suresh said that 3,631 candidates, including 294 for the armed police, had been trained at the Khanapur centre since 1993.

The 13th batch comprised 224 students, out of which there were 32 postgraduates, 117 graduates, four law graduates and 37 candidates who had got certificates in computer applications.

On the occasion, Assistant Commissioner Vijaykumar Torgal handed over to Mr. Sreenivas the certificate of ownership of the land allotted for the construction of the model training school. Additional Director-General of Police D.V. Guruprasad, Inspector-General of Police T.G. Doreswamy and Additional Superintendent of Police S.K. Hegde were present.
