`Seizure of cash not mentioned in complaint'

Congress submits memorandum to CEO

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi, which waylaid a van carrying cricket kits to Karimnagar on Monday night, had failed to mention in its police complaint that it had seized Rs. 5 lakhs in cash.

A party delegation comprising A. Chakrapani, APCC vice-president, V. Vasant Kumar, MLA, and others submitted a memorandum to Chief Electoral Officer V. Bhaskar on Wednesday and demanded a probe into the role of the TRS in trying to malign the Congress.

The Congress leaders handed over photocopies of the FIR and also the complaint lodged by Timmapur TRS mandal party president G. Narasimha Reddy. Terming the episode a `conspiracy', the delegation told the CEO that the cash was shown on television channels but was not mentioned in the complaint and the FIR.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Chakrapani asserted that the party had not ordered the kits. He said the APCC had made all payments through cheques.

The Telugu Desam and the BJP demanded dismissal of State Information Commissioner K. Sudhakar Rao in the light of the alleged recovery of cricket kits and cash meant for distribution to voters in Karimnagar. Questioning the silence of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on the issue, the TDP sought to know what prevented Dr. Reddy from initiating action against Mr. Rao.

At a separate press conference, BJP floor leader in the Assembly G. Kishan Reddy urged the Election Commission and the Governor to direct Ministers campaigning in Karimnagar and Bobbili Lok Sabha constituencies to return and attend to official work. Most of the Ministers were not attending the Secretariat for the past 15 days and this was tantamount to violating their constitutional oath.

Sangareddy: Dissident TRS legislator T. Jayaprakash Reddy alleged that T. Harish Rao, Siddipet MLA, was behind the cricket kit distribution issue. He told reporters that Mr. Harish Rao had allegedly designed and executed several plans to malign political opponents.
