Two electrocuted

Sangareddy: Two casual electrical workers were electrocuted and four others seriously injured on NH-7 near Manoharabad of Toopran mandal on Wednesday.

The workers were shifting the 11-KV sub-station to facilitate road-widening work when a wire they were pulling accidentally fell on the nearby 33-KV line. - Staff Reporter

Temple sets record

KURNOOL: Srisailam temple set a record by netting Rs. 72.27 lakhs through `hundi' collections during Kartheekamasam between October 23 and November 22.

The previous record was Rs. 42.34 lakhs collected in 2004. Last year Rs 37.99 lakhs was realised. - Special Correspondent

More contract vehicles permitted

HYDERABAD: The State Government has permitted an increase in the three-wheeled four-seater contract carriages in Hyderabad from 68,469 to 68,969.

It also permitted an increase in Vijayawada (from 8,600 to 8,700) and Visakhapatnam (8,300 to 8,400). - Special Correspondent

Warships thrown open to public

Kakinada: Two Navy warships will be arriving to the Kakinada coast for public display on November 23 and 24 in connection with the Indian Navy week celebrations during December first week, according to Krishna Kumar Andhra Naval NCC Unit Commander. He said people could visit these war ships on November 23 from 10 am till next day evening i.e; November 24. He advised the people of the district besides the students of various schools to avail the opportunity. - Correspondent

Remarks decried

Vizianagaram: TDP State SC Cell president V. Ramaiah, while condemning the remarks allegedly made by Minister for Marketing Botcha Satyanarayana against a caste on Tuesday, demanded that a case be registered against the Minister under Section 153 A of the IPC. At a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Ramaiah asked the Minister to tender an apology in public.

`Run for fun'

ELURU: National Cadets Corps (NCC) Day celebrations would be held here on November 24 and 25 under the aegis of 19 Andhra Battalion of NCC, according to its Commanding Officer Lt. Col. S.K. Sarma.

A `run for fun' would be organised, involving the NCC cadets from various schools and colleges from 19 Andhra Battalion on Friday. The run would commence from Sir. C.R. Reddy College and culminate into a function at Indoor Stadium, covering a distance of 6 km, Mr Sarma said. A parade would be conducted the next day at Sir C.R. Reddy College, he added. Workshop on IT

ELURU: A two-day workshop on Information Technology— WITSS-2006— would be held at Sir C.R. Reddy Women's College here from November 25, according to the college principal C. Aruna.

Local MP Kavuri Sambhasiva Rao will inaugurate the seminar while T. Hanuman Chowdary, an expert in IT, will speak on the last day of the programme.
