PATHANAMTHITTA: K.P. Nazeer, village officer in Aruvappulam, has been suspended from service, pending inquiry, by District Collector Ashok Kumar Singh, for allegedly taking a passive approach towards illegal sand-mining from the Achencoil river. According to official sources, the village officer has been suspended for "dereliction of duty, disobedience, insubordination, and incurring financial loss to the Government.'' It is alleged that the village officer ignored the direction of the Kozhencherry Tahsildar to book cases against the offenders who had illegally extracted sand from the Achencoil river on November 13.
