Staff Reporter

It will form the union in 25 colleges

  • SFI-led coalition won in six colleges
  • ABVP won in two colleges, KSU in three colleges in district

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Students' Federation of India (SFI) has swept the students' union elections in aided and Government colleges under the University of Kerala held on Wednesday.

Out of the 43 colleges that went to the polls, candidates of the SFI will form the college union in 25 colleges.

In six colleges, the SFI-led coalition won the elections. While the ABVP won two college unions, the KSU won in three colleges in Thiruvananthapuram district.

In eight colleges, candidates of the SFI won without any opposition.

A press note issued by the SFI said the organisation was able to win 47 out of the 69 university union councillor seats.

While an SFI press note claimed that the AISF won 7 councillor seats and the KSU, 3, a press note issued by the KSU said the organisation was able to win 15 seats in today's elections. The AISF has claimed victory in 11 seats.

The KSU has called a harthal in Nedumangad in protest against an alleged attack on its activists by activists of the SFI at the Government College, Nedumangad.

Except for minor skirmishes between students in a couple of colleges, the polls were peaceful. Elections to college unions under the University were held as per the recommendations of the Lyngdoh committee after a gap of two years.
