NLSIU campus all set for debate contest

THE NATIONAL Law School of India University (NLSIU) is now abuzz with its fifth international debate, which is on till November 26. The debate, organised by the Literary and Debating Society of NLSIU, was first held in 2002 and since then has been burgeoning in terms of size and stature.

The event follows a format modelled on international debating tournaments such as World's and All-Asian's.

The main aim of the debate is creating thought provoking dialogue among the youth on current affairs according to students of Debating Society.

In 2003, a contingent of 20 debaters from Pakistan competed against Indian teams and generated considerable interest in the media.

"The third edition in 2004 saw the debate growing bigger with 24 teams participating. "Alongside domestic teams from Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, we had participation from Lahore, Karachi and even NWFP, along with teams from Colombo, giving the tournament a genuine `SAARC' flavour.

The fourth edition saw a team from Pakistan finishing runners-up," said the organisers.

The fifth NLS Debate has around 40 teams and over 200 delegates.

The grand finale will be held on November 26.

Quiz fest

The NLSIU will also launch its first-ever dedicated quiz fest called "Ipso Facto" from Friday. "Ipso Facto" will be inaugurated with the Sports and Entertainment Quiz and The India Quiz on November 24; followed by the Literature Quiz and Business (Open) Quiz on November 25; and on November 26 the grand finale - The Audio-Visual Quiz and The Business Quiz, both open quizzes. Registration for all quizzes will be on the spot. Along with these six main quizzes, there will be a whole gamut of informal quizzes on a variety of specialised themes.

Participation in the "open" quizzes is not restricted to college teams only.

All are welcome, say the NLSIU student organisers. For details, call Siddharth Sen on ph: 9886247217 or Roshan Gopalkrishnan on ph: 9886133216.

The M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Management has organised a three-day annual all-India management festival "Perceptions `06" from November 23 to 25.

Students from different institutes are expected to learn, unlearn and relearn their skills and abilities in the areas of Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Banking and Information Systems.

The fest will also feature a Business Quiz, an Integrated Game and Best Manager event.
