`Stop harassment of lorry operators'

Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram Jilla Manal Lorry Thozhilali Union (AITUC) has urged the Government to stop the harassment of lorry operators by Police, Revenue and Vigilance officials involved in the crackdown on unauthorised sand mining. Addressing a press conference here, union president M. Sujanapriyan said scores of lorries were impounded on false charges. Lorry operators in the district will take out a march to the Secretariat on Tuesday and stage a dharna to highlight their demands, the union announced. — Special Correspondent

Entrance examination

Thiruvananthapuram: The entrance examination for admission to the 53rd batch of the IAS coaching centre functioning at the University College would be held on November 25, according to the College principal. — Staff Reporter

Assumes charge

Thiruvananthapuram: R. Ramanathan, an official of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers 1976 batch, has assumed charge as Additional General Manager, Southern Railway, Chennai. He would also be the Director of Public Grievances, Southern Railway and Appellate Authority for Public Information under Right to Information Act, a release from railways said. — Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: The president of the District Youth Congress Committee (I), Manacaud Suresh has urged Minister for Devaswom G. Sudhakaran to bring to book those involved in corruption in the Travancore and Kochi Devaswom Boards. — Staff Reporter

Harassment case

Thiruvananthapuram: The city police have registered a case in connection with the harassment of a 14-year-old girl by one of her relatives. According to the Valiathura police, the girl's relative Shibu has been harassing the girl since 1999. — Staff Reporter
