NALGONDA: The five-year-old Sivani, who was subjected to domestic violence for more than one year, now finds a happy home in Balasadan (Children's Home), in the town.

"I don't want to go home since my mother beats me regularly," the girl told The Hindu on Thursday.

She showed cuts and bruises all over her body purportedly caused by her mother.

Parents

"The kid is disturbed by severe torture she bore at her home.

The very mention of her mother's name sends shivers in her," Superintendent of the Home K.V.Krishnaveni said. Interestingly, her parents, who reside in Leprosy Colony on the outskirts of the town, didn't visit her.

The girl had been rescued from her home, thanks to a joint effort by the headmaster of the colony school, a journalist and the revenue staff on Monday night.

"Maa saaru aameku phone cheste nannu ikkadaku techharu..Naaku ikkada baagundi (I have been brought here after my teacher made a phone call to the reporter. I am happy here)," the girl with chubby cheeks said.

`Unwanted'

The residents of the colony alleged that the girl had become "unwanted" to her family after her mother gave birth to two boys.

Some of them are even sceptical about her claim that Sivani is her own daughter.

Scope for suspicion

Her father too gives incoherent answers giving scope for suspicion about the relation between the girl and the woman.

"As almost everyone in the colony spoke against the cruelty of the lady, we decided to rescue the girl to ensure her safety," Mandal Revenue Officer Moti Lal said.
