Special Correspondent
GULBARGA: Gulbarga District Congress Committee (DCC) on Thursday urged the Government to announce minimum support price for red gram at Rs. 2,500 per quintal and set up procurement centres to prevent the crash in the price of the produce. DCC president Allamprabhu Patil and other senior leaders met Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey and explained the problems faced by red gram growers due to the fall in the yield following insufficient rainfall and pest attack this year. Mr. Patil, who submitted a memorandum, addressed to the Chief Minister, to the Deputy Commissioner, pointed out that the crops in large tracts of land were afflicted with sterile mosaic disease that prevented the formation of flowers in the crop causing loss to farmers.
