JAIPUR: After holding this year's State-level Independence Day function in Udaipur on August 15, the Rajasthan Government has decided to hold the Republic Day function of 2007 in Kota. Governor Pratibha Patil will unfurl the Tricolour and take the salute at the parade. The State Government has decided to hold official celebrations in smaller cities ostensibly to expand the participation of people by taking the events on the national days in their midst at the divisional headquarters. The State-level functions were earlier traditionally held at Sawai Man Singh Stadium here. The stadium is now the preferred venue for international sports events. The Principal Secretary of the General Administration Department, C.M. Meena, presiding over a preliminary meeting to review the preparations for the function in Kota on Wednesday, said the local people would be involved in a big way with the event and encouraged to display the rich cultural heritage of Hadauti region on the occasion. Kota Divisional Commissioner J.C. Mohanty said the local folk artistes, students of Government and private schools and other performers would participate in the function.
