It is for the first time that State Schools Science Fair is coming to the hilly district of Wayanad. Though there were many shortcomings in terms of infrastructure and other facilities for the Fair, it was a big draw. The decision to take the science fair to this district, though belated, should be appreciated. The long queues of schoolchildren eagerly waiting for their turn to visit their stalls were proof enough of the growing interest in science in this district known for its breath-taking views. Even the intermittent rain, which comes when one least expects, could not dampen the spirit of the children. The Fair was an occasion for the people of Wayanad to see the young scientists at work. It would serve as an inspiration for the students of this district to aspire for higher goals. But such a mammoth event posed certain problems for the organisers. Many times, they failed to control the surging crowd. But one could not forget the festive mood prevailing in the area and the hospitality of the Wayanad people. The hospitality element should hold them in good stead in terms of attracting tourists to this beautiful place in the State.
