Deadlines set for 5 DRDO projects

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Government has announced deadlines for five high-profile projects of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

Operational clearance

These include the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme by the end of next year and the final operational clearance for the Light Combat Aircraft by 2010.

"The fact is that due to genuine technical difficulties some of the projects were delayed, but these are nearing completion and when developed they will be equipped with current technologies with a useful life of about 20-25 years," Defence Minister A.K. Antony said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

Other projects

The other three projects were: Command Information Decisions Support Systems for Army Commanders (Samvahak) by December 31, 2006; Integrated Electronic Warfare Programme (Samyukta) by November 30, 2007; and Naval Indigenous Electronic Warfare Programme (Sangraha) by this year end.
