TDP alleges fraud in allotment of land to SEZs

NELLORE: The TDP has alleged that the Government has been handing over priceless agriculture land at a throw away prices in the name of Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

"It has become a novel way for the Government to hand over large tracts of agricultural land to those promoters, who have close links with Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Moreover, a land scam is bound to emerge with the district administration using its clout to provide lands to private parties. The TDP will fight the SEZ move tooth and nail," former Minister and TDP leader Somireddy Chandramohana Reddy told reporters on Thursday.

Expressing concern over the `indiscriminate' land acquisition across the State for SEZs, the TDP leader alleged that the Government appears to be acting as brokers for promoters and virtually forcing farmers to subsidise their moves.

Taking exception to the packages offered by the Government for lands at Krishnapatnam, Nelatur, and Pynapuram villages for the thermal power project and modernisation of port works, the TDP leader demanded an attractive relief package.
