ONGOLE: State Information Commissioner Ambati Subba Rao has expressed happiness over maintenance of records regarding implementation of Right to Information Act in Government offices in the district headquarters and exhorted officials to extend this to mandal level. Addressing an orientation programme for college principals on Right to Information Act, he said that Andhra Pradesh was the first state to introduce a subject on the right to information in law colleges. He wanted college principals to appoint one assistant information officer in each college and furnish whatever information was sought by people as required by law. Any violation of the law would be viewed seriously and the State Information Commission, which is final appellate authority, could penalise them with a fine of Rs. 20,000. Acharya Nagarjuna University Vice-Chancellor V. Balamohana Das presided. University Rector Haragopala Reddy explained salient features of the Act.
