HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Ryotu Sangham has disputed Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's claims that the steps initiated by his Government have solved the problems of farmers resulting in steep decline in the number of suicide cases. The figures circulated by the Revenue Department were making it clear that more than 2,000 farmers and weavers committed suicide after the Congress came to power in the State. The statistics indicate that as many as 376 farmers committed suicide since June 2 this year, former MLA and sangham leader K. Ramakrishna said. Urging the Government to come out with a white paper, he said it should explain as to how farmers got rid of the crisis they were facing and also clarify whether they had come out of the debt wrangle.
State `unresponsive´
Staff Reporter writes: Meanwhile, the TDP has lashed out against the Government for being unresponsive over the suicides and hungers deaths of farmers and weavers. At a press conference here on Thursday, party's Polit Bureau member Ummareddy Venkateswarlu criticised the Government for misleading people on the figures.
