New role for Purnima

Principal Correspondent

Hyderabad: Former India captain Purnima Rau will don the new role as the convenor of a sub-committee which will work under the aegis of Hyderabad Cricket Association for the promotion of women's cricket.

With HCA secretary N. Shivlal Yadav giving the nod in principle to the nomination of Purnima Rau on the representation of the women cricketers, mostly hailing from districts in the Telangana region, the appointment is only a formality with the HCA executive committee expected to ratify the decision later this week.

Initially, Purnima's panel will monitor the selections for the next week's South Zone tournament and later go around the districts to spot and groom young talent.

HCA to pay fees

Shivlal Yadav told The Hindu that as the first step, HCA will pay Rs 1,500 each to all the senior players who represent Hyderabad in the South Zone championship and Rs 500 each for the junior cricketers for their zonal matches.
