CHENNAI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday demanded the dismissal of Fisheries Minister K.P.P. Samy, in view of the ongoing enquiry ordered by the High Court, into alleged harassment of residents of a fishermen's hamlet at Thiruvottiyur by the Minister and his kin. H. Raja, vice-president of the BJP State unit, told reporters here that when the enquiry was on, it would not be appropriate for Mr. Samy to remain as Minister. So, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi should sack him immediately. On the floods in southern districts, Mr. Raja said recurrent problem showed lack of preparedness on the part of the administration. Had silt from canals and watercourses been removed, this would not have happened. Criticising the Centre for its "anti-farmer approach," he deplored the suggestion made by Union Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia for a consensus on levying cess on groundwater extraction, at a recent conference.
